Evans, Walker

(3 nov. 1903, St. Louis, Mo., EE.UU.–10 abr. 1975, New Haven, Conn.).

Fotógrafo estadounidense. Recibió tempranamente la influencia de las fotografías de Eugène Atget. En 1934, sus imágenes de la arquitectura de Nueva Inglaterra se exhibieron en la primera exposición individual de fotografía en el Museo de Arte Moderno. Desde 1935 fotografió para la Farm Security Administration a las víctimas rurales de la gran depresión. Estas imágenes fueron publicadas en American Photographs (1938). Colaboró con James Agee en la documentación de la vida de los aparceros de Alabama, en Let Us Now Praise Famous Men (1941). Las fotografías de Evans aparecieron sin títulos ni comentarios en una sección aparte del texto de Agee; sin embargo, el todo constituye una de las colaboraciones más notables entre un fotógrafo y un escritor. Llegó a ser editor de la revista Fortune (1945.–65) y profesor de la Universidad de Yale (1965.–74).
